Scoil Mhuire began the ‘Run Around Ireland Challenge’ before the Easter break and the challenge will continue for the next three weeks. Each class keeps a daily record of the number of laps they run around the running track. For this challenge, one lap is deemed to represent one kilometer. Charts are on display in the classrooms showing the distance from our school to famous landmarks around the country. The children choose which landmark they can visit using their total laps completed every day. This challenge is a great way for pupils to learn about Ireland’s most famous landmarks and to bring learning outdoors. This challenge also supports the Athletics strand of the PE curriculum and gives pupils the opportunity to develop good running techniques. Scoil Mhuire is working towards renewing our Active School Flag and this challenge is one of the key criteria for achieving that aim.
