The Lidl Farm provided the opportunity for the children to learn about the "farm to fork" experience. The children started in the field where they learned how crops are grown. They pulled carrots, potatoes, beetroot and onions from the ground and proudly carried them home to be consumed. They met a cow and her calf and chose a large pumpkin from the
pumpkin patch to take back to the classroom.
The tour continued with a train journey through the Lidl centre that showed them the busy environment that is Newbridge distribution centre. Information was provided on how Lidl deliver the freshest product to stores daily while highlighting the sustainable features of the building. All children received a goodie back with healthy snacks to keep them going throughout the tour experience. This mini trip was a huge success and we anticipate further trips to the farm for other classes later in the year. Scoil Mhuire are grateful to Lidl for providing this educational opportunity for our children.
